Biography
Dr. José Luis Simarro is a Spanish physician and researcher dedicated to the clinical study of Lipedema and disorders of adipose and connective tissue. In 2007, he founded the Instituto del Lipedema (ILM) in Madrid, a specialist center focused on the study, diagnosis, and non-surgical treatment of Lipedema.
Over nearly two decades of clinical practice, Dr. Simarro and his team have evaluated thousands of patients with Lipedema. A detailed analysis of more than 1,800 consecutive patients over a three-year period formed the basis of his recent publication in Biomedicines, describing clinical signs at diagnosis and comorbidities associated with the disease.
Dr. Simarro is a member of the Board of the Lipedema World Alliance and co-author of the international Delphi consensus on the definition and management of Lipedema. His current research focuses on developing an integrated pathophysiological model of Lipedema involving systemic inflammation, connective tissue dysfunction, and venous-lymphatic alterations.
